Seasonal Mosquito Control Technician Bike Crew
Job Description:
A seasonal mosquito control technician bike crew works under field manager and director, to run and manage the curb and gutter program, and will be expected to help with other mosquito control assignments. Will be biking throughout the county daily treating storm drains and catch basins. Is expected to learn about and apply integrated mosquito management (IMM) in their work. Will gain a working knowledge of the mosquito life cycle and the larval habitats used throughout the county, including the proper application techniques for larval surveillance and treatment. This is seasonal employment for the summer mosquito control season.
Basic Duties:
- Bike the county and treat storm drains and catch basins.
- Records all treatments and maintains accurate records of inspections and treatments.
- Maintains all bike equipment.
- Standard “housekeeping” tasks on equipment and facilities.
- Attending training sessions, reading district manuals, and otherwise keeps informed of policies and procedures; keeps assistant manager informed of progress and problems.
- Possible work in urban field mosquito control, as directed.
- Assist in set-up and collection of mosquito surveillance traps, as needed, and directed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education equivalent to graduation from high school.
- Must be able to ride a minimum of 25 miles in a 10-hour day.
- Must possess a valid Utah Driver’s License with an excellent driving record.
- Must be able to obtain a non-commercial pesticide applicators license.
- Must be physically able and willing to do physical labor. Must be able to lift fifty pounds.
- Must have the ability to safely operate district equipment .
- Must be able to work dependably, cooperatively with others and to exercise independent judgement.
- Must be able to lift bike on and off bike rack.
Job Duration:
May to September, 40 hours a week, Monday to Thursday, 6 am to 4 pm.
Work Environment:
Will be riding along busy roads and in various weather conditions. Will be exposed to the sun and extreme temperatures.
